CAPIZ — A new 40-foot fiberglass boat has been deployed in the municipality of Ivisan, marking a significant boost to the Capiz Provincial Bantay Dagat operations, particularly in the province’s Second District.
The deployment forms part of efforts to strengthen coastal protection and expand maritime monitoring, especially in areas where safeguarding marine resources is vital to both ecological sustainability and the livelihood of local fisherfolk.
The vessel was acquired through a collaborative initiative led by Second District Congresswoman Jane T. Castro, in coordination with Dumalag Mayor Maria Concepcion “Khuku” Castro.
Recognizing the need to enhance surveillance and enforcement against illegal fishing and other maritime threats, the officials pushed for improved resources to support coastal law enforcement.
The boat was formally received by Mayor Castro on March 27, 2026, during a turnover ceremony held at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Field Office VI in Pototan, Iloilo.
Key officials present during the ceremony included Capiz Provincial Bantay Dagat Coordinator Glenn Beup and former BFAR Provincial Director Edwin Javie, underscoring the strong collaboration between national agencies and local government units in protecting marine resources.
Commissioned for operational use, the vessel will be strategically deployed in the coastal waters of the Second District to enhance monitoring, surveillance, and enforcement capabilities of the Bantay Dagat team.
Equipped with features designed for maritime patrol, the fiberglass boat is expected to significantly strengthen the province’s campaign against illegal fishing and other unlawful activities at sea.
The acquisition was made possible through coordinated efforts with BFAR, reflecting a sustained partnership aimed at promoting sustainable fishing practices and preserving aquatic ecosystems.
