MANILA – Five players from Ceres-Negros FC have been called up for the Philippine Azkals in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2023 Asian Cup joint qualification game against Maldives tonight at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives.

Among those who will suit up for the Azkals from the Negros Occidental-based football club are Mike Rigoberto Ott, Sean Kane, Carlos de Murga, Jose Elmer Porteria, and Stephan Schrock.

Also tapped by Azkals are Patrick Deyto, Neil Etheridge, Michael Falkesgaard, Amani Aguinaldo, Mikel Baas, Alvaro Silva, Daisuke Sato, Martin Steuble, Edison Suerti, and Luke Woodland.

Completing the national team roster are Yrick Gallantes, Angel Guirado, Marco Casambre, Iain Ramsay, John Patrick Strauss, Curt Jordan Dizon, Mark Hartmann, and Patrick Reichelt.

Aside from tonight’s matchup, Azkals head coach Goran Milojevic will also use the same roster when they face Syria on Nov. 19 at the Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai, UAE.

Currently in third place with one win, one draw, and one loss, the Azkals heads to the FIFA International Match window brimming with confidence following their scoreless draw against China PR on Oct. 15 in Bacolod City.

The Philippines needs to finish top of the group to move on to the next qualification phase of the World Cup.

A second-placed standing will also allow the Filipinos to advance but it must be one of the four best runners-up for that to happen.

Failure to finish in the top two will relegate the Philippines into the third qualification round of the Asian Cup./PN
