KALIBO, Aklan – Five suspected drug peddlers were nabbed in three separate sting operations here.

Seven sachets of suspected shabu valued at around P100,000 were seized from 39-year-old Daryl Manglapus, and 42-year-old Gene Auro, a police report showed. They were caught in Barangay Pook of the town around 10:20 p.m. on Feb. 9.

An undercover cop initially bought from the suspects two sachets of illegal drugs for P3,000.

Kalibo Deputy Chief of Police Major Joel Bulfa said the suspects were inside their room when the anti-drug operatives conducted the sting operation.

Two former detainees of the Aklan Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Barangay Nalook here were also apprehended around 2:15 p.m. on Feb 8.

The 42-year-old Junny Cris Delonguines from Oton Iloilo and his 30-year-old companion Loid Rubias yielded after they sold two sachets of suspected shabu for P4,500 to an undercover officer outside the ARC .

Delonguines and Rubias were released by the court through a plea bargaining agreement, but they still continued to engage in the illegal drug trade.

Police also arrested another drug peddler in Barangay Estancia, of this town.

The 48-year-old Resident Hilario Regalado was nabbed after he sold a sachet of suspected illegal drugs to an undercover operative for P1,500 on Feb. 6.

Weeks of surveillance proved that Regalado had been using and peddling suspected shabu.

All of them were detained in the lockup cell of the Kalibo municipal police station, facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

According to Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) Chief Major Frenze Andrade, the sting operations were conducted in cooperation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Kalibo municipal police station and other law enforcement units.

He said that they will continue their crackdown on drug pushers and users engaging in illegal drug trade to reduce the proliferation of drugs in the province.

Itong mga drug personalities ay nagbabantay din sa ating mga kapulisan. Sa nakalipas na mga buwan, nag-umpisa ulit silang magbenta, lalong lalo na itong naka-plea bargaining agreement,” he stressed.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
