POLICE in the city and province of Iloilo and antidrug agents captured five illegal drug suspects on Friday, Jan. 26, when the highlights of the 50th Dinagyang Festival started.
More than two dozen sachets of suspected shabu were seized during buy-bust operations staged between 12 noon and 11 p.m., reports from the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 showed.
The biggest haul – 24 sachets – was during the operation against the 34-year-old Gerald Sernias in Barangay President Roxas, Iloilo City at around 11:10 p.m.
Sernias, a resident of Barangay 27, Bacolod City, yielded 23 sachets of suspected shabu on top of the one plastic pack of the same substance he sold to undercover operatives for P1,000, authorities said.
Sernias was detained at Iloilo City Police Station 1.
Rommel Gomez was also arrested along with Hedzel Pineda in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The PDEA identified Gomez as a “high-value target” for being a suspected member of the Prevendido drug group.
Gomez and Pineda yielded nine plastic packs of suspected shabu weighing a total of 2 grams and with an estimated market value of P10,000, a PDEA report stated.
On Simeon Aguilar Street, Barangay Poblacion (Ilawod) in the component city of Passi, the PDEA and a special police drug enforcement team caught Rante Padernal at around 5:40 p.m.
Four sachets of suspected shabu weighing half a gram and valued at P2,500 were seized from him.
At 12 noon of the same day, antidrug agents and officers from the Estancia municipal police station and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit caught villager Louie Geneblaza, 43, in Barangay Poblacion Zone II, Estancia.
Six sachets of suspected shabu, P950 cash and three cellphones were seized from the suspect. The Estancia police took him in custody./PN
