BACOLOD City – Fifty vendors have so far applied for permits to sell firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in this city.
Executive Assistant II Ernesto Pineda, head of city government’s market coordinating and monitoring task force, said these vendors will only be allowed to sell their products once they are able to secure a retailer’s permit from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Civil Security Unit 6 and special permit from the city government.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier issued Memorandum No.123 designating Pineda as overseer of fireworks and pyrotechnics sale in the metro.
He ordered Pineda to coordinate with the PNP, Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, Business and Licensing Division and the Department of Public and Services in regulating the firecracker sale.
The space behind the Pope John Paul II Tower at the Reclamation Area has been designated as firecracker zone.
It is the only area in the city where firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices can be displayed and sold until Dec. 31.
Pineda said those who will sell firecrackers outside the designated zone will be charged and their goods confiscated.
The PNP identified the illegal firecrackers: Baby Rocket, Judas’ Belt, El Diablo, Paper Caps, Pulling of Strings, Sky Rocket (or kwitis), Small Triangulo, Butterfly, Fountain, Jumbo, regular and special Luces, Mabuhay, Roman Candle, Sparklers, Trompillo, and Whistle device./PN
