BACOLOD City – The Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT) wanted to produce 5,000 health care information management (HIM) jobs by 2022.
“It is projected that 210,000 jobs will open in the HIM industry of the Philippines. It is expected to generate $5 billion,” said BNEFIT executive director Jocelle Batapa-Sigue.
Out of the 210,000, Sigue hopes that the 5,000 will be in the city.
She said this during the 1st Bacolod HIM Conference at the SMX Convention Center on Aug. 17 to 18.
The conference was organized by the BNEFIT in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the MedStar Philippines HealthCare Information Management Corp.
It gathered local stakeholders who were encouraged to boost the HIM industry in the countryside.
“Bacolod is capable of generating more than 5,000 HIM jobs because of its talent pool,” said DICT undersecretary Monchito Ibrahim who attended as keynote speaker on the second day.
Moreover, Ibrahim said HIM is not a “call center job.”
“I have to work on changing that kind of mindset,” he added.
Graduating high school students and college students of medical, health and information technology-related courses also attended the conference. (PNA)
