54 nostalgic years of Hotel Del Rio: Bring back the glory days!

“TONIGHT is a celebration of gratitude and traditions,” said Hotel Del Rio and Iloilo Convention Center – ICON chief operating officer Allan Tan on Dec. 8, highlighting the homegrown hotel’s more than five-decade legacy as one of the city’s enduring icons. “This is our little way of saying thank you for always being there, for always supporting Hotel Del Rio.”

To cap off 2019, Hotel Del Rio is treating Ilonggo families to the best of the classic Filipino Christmas, with a slate of events and offerings that seek to bring back nostalgia for the Yuletide seasons of yore – all the while, also reliving the hotel’s glory days as an establishment synonymous with Ilonggo revelry and celebration.

Hotel Del Rio kicked off its Holiday festivities with aplomb on Dec. 8 with its very first “Joyful Cheers” Christmas Lighting Ceremony to unveil its merry new décor for the month of December. Featuring the designs of celebrated Ilonggo artist and interior designer Architect Edgardo “Edgar” Lopez Suelo, Hotel Del Rio’s lobby features rustic Yuletide scenes and charming sinamay parols – all paying homage to the aesthetic of a classic Filipiniana Pasko and showcasing the exquisiteness of quality Ilonggo craftsmanship.

“Today, Hotel Del Rio stands as the sole truly Ilonggo hospitality brand in the city. With its unique vista overlooking the Iloilo River, Hotel Del Rio was first established in 1965, now boasting a more than half a century legacy as an Ilonggo landmark and icon – a pioneer of the city’s hospitality industry for five decades now.  Ahead of its milestone 55th anniversary next year, Hotel Del Rio is gearing up for a slate of revamps as it reintroduces the property as a modern homegrown brand – with sleek and contemporary amenities that pay tribute to local color – yet still firmly grounded on the nostalgia of its glory days and its place in the history of Iloilo City.

Filipino Family Christmas

For this Yuletide season, Hotel Del Rio is paying tribute to the classic Filipino Christmas, putting Ilonggo families at the center of it all. Starting this Dec. 16, the hotel begins its “9 Mornings Breakfast Buffet” to coincide with the annual Simbang Gabi. Café Del Prado will be opening as early as five in the morning to welcome churchgoers with a sumptuous breakfast spread that includes the quintessential after Simbang Gabi treats bibingka with salted egg and puto bumbong, freshly-baked and synonymous with the Christmas experience at just P595.00 nett. Also on the buffet menu are traditional local favorites like tsokolate eh, suman, ibus and other kakanin.

On the evening of Dec. 24, celebrate Noche Buena with Hotel Del Rio as they host their annual “Christmas Eve Dinner Buffet” with a hearty banquet perfect for Ilonggo families to partake, while cherishing precious bonding moments together.
