BACOLOD City – There was a 56.38 percent decline in crime incidents during the three-day observance of Undas in the province this year, according to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo).
Based on a Nocppo report released on Friday, only 41 crimes were recorded from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 this year compared to 91 crimes in the same period last year.
Nocppo spokesperson Inspector Charmae De Paz attributed the decrease in the Undas crime volume to the intensified security measures in the province, like the deployment of police personnel in cemeteries, public markets, terminals, and other places of convergence.
De Paz added that the information and education campaign of the police also helped in reducing crimes this year.
The cooperation between the public and the police was also affirmed to have contributed to the peaceful observance of the All Saints’ Day and the All Souls’ Day, Nocppo said in a statement.
For his part, Nocppo director Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr. said he acknowledges the sacrifices and efforts of all police officers in the province in maintaining peace and order during Undas.
Earlier, the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) lauded its units for a “generally peaceful” observance of the Undas in Western Visayas.
“It’s another job excellently done together,” said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of PRO-6. (PNA/PN)
