AKLAN — Authorities intercepted 57 live hogs from Antique after a delivery truck attempted to bypass an African Swine Fever (ASF) quarantine checkpoint along the Nabas, Aklan – Pandan, Antique boundary early Thursday morning, October 1.
Police Captain Christian John Nalangan, platoon leader of the Aklan Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), reported that the truck overtook another vehicle and sped past the ASF border control point past 1 a.m.
Operating personnel immediately pursued the fleeing vehicle and successfully brought it to a stop a short distance away. Law enforcers held the driver and his two helpers, all residents of Antique.
According to a Radyo Todo Aklan report, the intercepted livestock was initially brought to the Nabas Municipal Police Station before being turned over to the Department of Agriculture for proper disposition.
Nalangan noted that under existing quarantine protocols, live hogs transported without the required health and shipping permits are typically returned to their point of origin.
Meanwhile, the driver and his two helpers are undergoing inquest proceedings and will face criminal charges for disobedience to a person in authority, authorities said./PN
