BACOLOD City – Six New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were caught yesterday in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Lieutenant Colonel Egberto Dacoscos, commanding officer of Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB), identified them as residents Rodrigo Medez, Jimmy Teves, Jodito Montecino, JP Romano, Roger Jack Sabanal, and Eliseo Andres.
Medez and 5 others were served with arrest warrants in their respective houses for criminal case numbers 2019-8527 and 8533 issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 61 in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
“They were involved in an encounter against our troops in Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City last May 2018, where two of our soldiers were killed and 6 others were injured,” said Dacoscos.
He added the arrested terrorist were members of the Central Negros Front and Komiteng Rehiyong-Negros.
“Their apprehension is a blow to the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front in Central Negros,” Dacoscos stressed.
They will be turned over to the police for proper disposition, he noted.
“No one is above the law and no one can escape justice. Sooner or later the NPAs will answer for their crimes. The army will relentlessly pursue them,” the 62nd commanding officer reiterated./PN
