BACOLOD City – In January, 68 loose firearms were surrendered to various police stations and units belonging to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO).
Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, NOCPPO spokesperson, said 48 of the surrendered guns were improvised firearms, and another 20 belonged to gun owners who have either not renewed or were still in the process of renewing their firearms’ licenses.
Donasco said the recent surrenders were a big help in the campaign against loose firearms, especially since it is already the election season.
Meanwhile, Donasco said since the implementation of the Commission on Elections gun ban on Jan. 9, they have already nabbed 11 violators.
Four of the arrested were from Kabankalan City where the first gun ban violator in Western Visayas was arrested./PN
