ILOILO – The fourth road rehabilitation project under the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP) program of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) was recently launched in Mina town.
The project is the concreting of the 8.3-kilometer Talibong-Yugot-Nabitasan-Naslo road.
DILG gave Iloilo province a grant of P413 million this year for the CMGP.
Since the road connects the town of Mina to its neighbor Pototan, Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. cited the importance of the project to the people of the two municipalities.
“This will not only provide ease of travel but will eventually spur development to the municipalities of Mina and Pototan,” he said.
Mina was once an “arrabal” of Pototan until its creation as an independent town on Nov. 11, 1969
Iloilo province availed itself of the CMGP for consistently obtaining the Seal of Good Local Governance and had complied with the requirements set by the agency.
Three other road rehabilitation projects under CMGP are being implemented in Calinog (12.4 km), Batad (2.5 km) and Carles (5.9 km).
Assistant Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig said the project has a standard width of 6.1 meters and thickness of 10 inches and will be complemented with drainage and slope protection, road signs and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
Defensor cited the significant help of DILG and other agencies in the rehabilitation of provincial roads.
He said with over 600 kilometers of provincial roads, the provincial government alone could not afford to have it all rehabilitated.
“We express our heartfelt gratitude to the different agencies that are helping us in our quest to improve our provincial roads,” said Defensor.
The road rehabilitation projects would help the people especially in the hinterlands as it would make their travel convenient and would improve the transport of goods and agricultural products to the town centers, he explained.
More Iloilo provincial roads are lined up for rehabilitation next year also under the CMGP and the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) of the Department of Agriculture and World Bank, said Defensor. (Erly Garcia, Capitol News)/PN
