ILOILO City – Betting on DotA, or Defense of the Ancients, is considered illegal gambling, according to the police.
Eight men caught playing and betting on the online game in an internet shop on Jalandoni Street, City Proper were arrested and hauled to the detention facility of Police Station 1 yesterday.
A police report identified those caught as Moses Jayro Justiniane, Geralph Saring, John Patrick Castillon, Raymund Kirby Dollente, Christian Guillergan, John Stanley Dolar, and Terrence Palomar.
Officers arrested them around 12:30 a.m. inside Menski Infinity internet shop, said Chief Inspector Aldrin Lamera, Police Station 1 chief.
Some P1,700 worth of bet money was seized from them.
Charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 may be filed against them, Lamera said.
The law penalizes illegal cockfighting, lotteries, card games, games using plastic tiles, slot machines, roulettes, among others, “or any other game scheme, whether upon chance or skill, wherein wagers consisting of money, articles of value or representative of value are at stake or made.”/PN
