ILOILO City – Whatever caused the death of a former seafarer from Barangay Acuit, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo remains a mystery to the authorities.
The municipal police requested the Police Regional Office 6 crime laboratory to autopsy the body of the Edmundo Bayoneta.
The 53-year-old Bayoneta was found dead in a rice field in their village around 6 a.m. on July 22.
Chief Inspector Raymundo Celoso, Barotac Nuevo police head, said Bayoneta had no injury.
Bayoneta was last seen alive around 7 p.m. on July 21.
He was drinking with friends in the house of one of the latter near where his body was found, investigation showed.
Bayoneta told them he was going home, and his friends saw him riding his bicycle, police said.
From the looks of it, Bayoneta may have been too drunk to get up and suffocated when he fell off his bicycle and his face went smack into the mud. He had no injuries aside from the bruises on the stomach, said Celoso. “We have to dig deeper.”/PN
