BACOLOD City – Eight firefighters in Talisay City, Negros Occidental tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Five of these firemen were from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) while three others belonged to the local government unit (LGU) of Talisay City, according to Fire Senior Superintended Jerry Candido of BFP Region 6.

Candido said some of the firefighters underwent re-swabbing and the results came back still positive for COVID-19.

Their fire station was on lockdown since last week after the first reported three cases.

Seven of the firefighters were isolated at a quarantine facility while another is currently admitted at a hospital.

The lockdown has also caused the LGU to rely temporarily on the BFP stations in Bacolod City and Silay City should any emergency arise in the city.

Candido further stated the Talisay City’s fire station may not be able to operate until at least after the month of September.

“We are trying our best to resume the fire operation and emergency responses in the city,” Candido added./PN
