BACOLOD City – There were nine deaths due to dengue from January to Aug. 12, records from the City Health Office (CHO) showed.
These included four boys and five girls aged two to 12 years old.
The latest case was of a three-year-old girl from Barangay Villamonte who died earlier this month at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Regional Hospital.
Last year, there were seven recorded death due to dengue.
Dengue infection also rose to 888 cases this year from last year’s 809 in the same period.
The CHO identified barangays Mandalagan, Villamonte, Mansilingan, Banago, Alijis, Estefania, Vista Alegre, Taculing, and Sum-ag as dengue “hotspots.”
“The communities must observe cleanliness in their surroundings,” said CHO Environmental Sanitation Division head Grace Tan.
Fogging was also conducted in the villages, Tan added.
For her part, Councilor Em Ang authored a resolution directing barangay councils to conduct dengue information and education campaigns./PN
