BACOLOD City – A nine-year-old girl was killed while her two siblings — a 14-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy — were injured after they were allegedly struck with stones inside their home at Hacienda Badiang, Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental, on February 7.
Police said the children’s father works in Bacolod City and usually returns home on weekends to provide financial support. Their mother is currently working abroad.
According to the Silay City Police Station, the father failed to return home on Friday night, February 6, due to heavy rainfall. When he arrived the following day, he found his three children inside the house, covered in blood, with the nine-year-old already dead.
Investigators reported that the victims sustained head injuries. Two large stones were recovered inside the house and were believed to have been used in the assault.
The 14-year-old girl and the four-year-old boy were undergoing treatment in a hospital as of press time, while the eldest child was scheduled to undergo a medico-legal examination.
Police said they are looking into several possible motives, including a personal dispute or robbery, although initial findings showed no missing items from the house.
Authorities urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and appealed to the suspect to surrender and cooperate to ensure justice for the victims.
Meanwhile, Silay City’s Mayor Joedith Gallego offered a P25,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
Gallego expressed deep sadness over the incident and reiterated his call for public cooperation to help authorities resolve the case./PN
