ILOILO City – A total of 945 police personnel have been deployed across Iloilo City and the province as authorities brace for a surge of travelers and churchgoers this Holy Week, with security forces blanketing key areas to prevent crime and ensure public safety.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) rolled out coordinated security operations under the nationwide Ligtas SUMVAC 2026 program, intensifying police visibility in churches, transport hubs, tourist destinations, and major thoroughfares amid the expected influx of devotees and vacationers.
In Iloilo City alone, hundreds of officers have been stationed in high-traffic areas, with help desks set up and road safety teams deployed, while inspections of terminals and continuous mobile patrols are being carried out in coordination with traffic and transport agencies.
Police Colonel Wilbert Parilla, ICPO officer-in-charge, emphasized that the heightened deployment is meant to maintain peace and order during one of the country’s most observed religious seasons, when crowds converge for processions, Visita Iglesia, and Good Friday rites.
“Your ICPO is ready to ensure your safety and security, which will always be our top priority. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as we work together to maintain peace, order, and safety in Iloilo City,” Parilla said.
Parilla also urged the public to take precautions, particularly against theft, as large gatherings and heavy foot traffic increase vulnerability during the Lenten observance.
Meanwhile, the IPPO has mobilized 525 personnel across the province to secure churches, pilgrimage sites, and other convergence areas.
Provincial police director Colonel Bayani Razalan assured that all units are in place to safeguard communities during the Holy Week rush.
Security operations will remain in effect until Easter Sunday, covering the peak travel and religious activity period as authorities aim for a safe, orderly, and incident-free Semana Santa across Iloilo./PN
