KALIBO, Aklan – A neophyte radio reporter plans to file a direct assault charge against the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6.
His company, Energy News FM, will help Darwin Tapayan file the case, the reporter told Philippine News Agency on Thursday.
An unidentified PDEA agent allegedly harassed Tapayan, who was covering an antidrug operation on Monday here, and confiscated his cell phone.
The subject of the operation, Emmanuelito “Manny” Sualog, was No. 7 in the provincial police’s drug watch list. He was caught.
A resident of Barangay Camanci Norte, Numancia town, Sualog was a former Sangguniang Bayan member of the municipality.
The alleged harassment of Tapayan was caught on closed-circuit television camera.
A reporter for Brigada News FM, Arbelle Sauza, told the police Tapayan was a legitimate member of the press.
The PDEA agent turned over Tapayan’s cell phone to Eleanor Reyes, an anchorwoman for IBC-dyRg.
The agency has yet to comment on the incident. (PNA)
