KALIBO, Aklan – Antidrug raids and buy-bust operations in this capital town since July 2016 led to the arrest of 30 suspects, including two from the provincial police’s top 10 watch list in April 2017.
A total of 423 suspected drug personalities also turned themselves in from July 1 to March 7, police records showed.
Seventy-nine percent (336) of them were alleged drug dealer, while the rest were suspected pushers/users. None from those who surrendered was a drug financier/protector, according to police records.
Among those who surrendered, 23 were women.
Starting March 6, police renewed efforts against illegal drugs through Oplan Double Barrel Reloaded, Tokhang Revisited and High-Value Target Revisited.
Officers held 24 visitations in barangays. This time the unit commander, barangay officials and religious leaders joined the visits.
Suspected drug personalities who surrender undergo moral and spiritual counseling, said Senior Police Officer 1 Julius Barrientos, police-community relations chief.
A new group, the Special Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU), is leading police antidrug operations.
It staged three operations early this month in coordination with regional and provincial DEUs and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
