BORACAY – Parties and loud music will be prohibited in this world-renowned island resort for 24 hours starting Good Friday.
The Catholic faithful should have a chance to solemnly observe the Holy Week, according to Felix delos Santos, chief tourism operations officer.
The ban takes effect from 6 a.m. on Good Friday until 6 a.m. on Black Saturday.
Municipal Resolution No. 015, passed in 2009, prohibits the issuance of permits for parties on Good Friday.
While the ordinance has no punitive provisions, police will patrol the island, particularly the 4-kilometer White Beach, to ensure everyone complies with it.
Delos Santos clarified that the ban does not stop bars and restaurants from operating, it only prohibits them from playing loud music.
At least 35,000 tourists are expected to visit Boracay this Holy Week, he said.
Security in all entry and exit points was intensified starting Palm Sunday.
Multiagency security groups are on “alert status,” Delos Santos said. (PNA)
