ROXAS City – Local firefighters are spreading information on how to prevent fires during the Holy Week.
Aside from the interpersonal “Ugnayan sa Barangay,” they also pushed the campaign on the air with the support of local broadcast stations — all part of “Oplan Semana Santa: Lakbay Alalay 2017.”
“Unplug unused appliances and turn the main switch off if the family goes on vacation,” Senior Fire Office 1 Marlon B. Garbo, public information officer for the Bureau of Fire Protection, said over the radio.
Fireplaces and liquefied petroleum gas hoses and regulators must always be properly checked, as these may trigger fires if left unattended, Garbo said.
“Charcoal users must also observe proper disposal of the alternative cooking fuel,” he stressed.
During Holy Week procession, the public must avoid throwing candles away, which might catch fire and endanger lives and properties. At home, candles must also be placed in secure areas and away from curtains, the Fire bureau said.
Barangay officials are also called to remind their constituents to refrain from setting backyard fire, especially during this dry season. (PIA/PN)
