ILOILO City – Amid the increasing number of tourists visiting Western Visayas, the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6 challenged local government units to keep up with this tourism upsurge.
Regional Director Helen Catalbas said the increasing demand in the region’s tourism industry would require collective effort and would only be successful if all stakeholders are doing their part in achieving these tourism goals.
“DOT-6 will continue to bring more foreign tourists to experience Western Visayas,” she said.
Recently, the provinces of Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental hosted 22 travel agents and media from Taiwan.
The familiarization tour featured a heritage tour and ocular inspection of accommodation facilities in the city and province of Iloilo and Bacolod-Talisay-Silay in Negros Occidental, and demo-making of mango-based products in Guimaras.
They also witnessed Panaad sa Negros Occidental Festival.
“Since 2010, Taiwan has been one of Western Visayas’ leading sources of foreign tourists,” said Catalbas.
The trip of Taiwan travel agents and media was part of DOT’s efforts in strengthening the relationship between Taiwan and the Philippines.
“The familiarization tour aims to showcase the standard itinerary offered by DOT-accredited tour operators and inspect properties pertaining to accommodation, transportation, and food in Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental,” said Catalbas.
Likewise, the endeavor provided more opportunities for local tourism stakeholders to offer and link their products and services to the international market. (PIA-Iloilo/PN)
