ILOILO City – A rookie police officer arrested in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district for extorting money from a retired teacher faces a string of charges.
Possible complaints against Police Officer 1 Glenn Garbosa are violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (illegal possession of firearm), extortion and grave misconduct.
Garbosa was caught on Thursday night receiving extortion money from Rey Fajutrao, 65, of Barangay San Isidro, Jaro.
If found guilty of grave misconduct, Garbosa may lose his job, said National Police Commission 6 (Napolcom-6) spokesperson Allen Camering.
Even if Fajutrao won’t file a complaint, Napolcom-6 can still investigate Garbosa, said Camering.
Camering also said Garbosa has a pending case at Napolcom-6 for withdrawing money from the automated teller machine (ATM) bank accounts of two classmates.
Sometime in November 2016, Garbosa asked to borrow P1,500 from classmate Police Officer 1 Paulo Moquirio.
Camering said Moquirio lent Garbosa his ATM card.
Moquiro later discovered that Garbosa withdraw over P20,000.
On December 2016, Garbosa also borrowed P1,500 from another classmate, Police Officer 1 Edelio Alanza, said Camering.
Garbosa withdrew P30,000 from Alanza’s account, according to the Napolcom-6 spokesperson.
The two classmates of Garbosa complained to Napolcom-6.
“Garbosa promised to pay his two classmates when they met in my office but up to now he has not,” said Camering./PN
