MANILA – The DNA of Resorts World Manila attacker Jessie Carlos matched with the one from a charred corpse found in a hotel near the gambling and entertainment center, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
This confirms that it was Carlos who was found dead inside Room 510 of Maxim’s Hotel after going berserk inside Resorts World in Pasay City on June 2, NCRPO chief Oscar Albayalde said on Wednesday.
A special team was still investigating to determine if Carlos was in any way connected with any terrorist group, Albayalde said.
In a House of Representatives hearing, he said they “have not unearthed anything yet” on Carlos’ possible connection with terror groups.
Early on June 2 Carlos ran amok at Resorts World and set fire to gambling tables and stole casino chips. He was later found dead — he apparently set himself on fire — inside the hotel room.
After the incident 38 people who died of suffocation were found inside the casino, mostly in the VIP room, while 54 others sustained injuries.
Carlos was a former employee of the Department of Finance’s One-Stop Shop Interagency Tax Credit and Duty Drawback Center but was dismissed in 2014 for mis-declarations in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth.
A father of three, Carlos got separated from his wife, Jen, due to his casino addiction problem. He was also deep in debt and had even sold his Ford Ranger, police said./PN
