BACOLOD City – Barangay Banago village chief Arnel Benjamin has been freed from an administrative charge before the office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).
This was after the SP committee on laws and good government recommended the dismissal of the administrative case for grave abuse of authority and oppression filed by Arrah Mae Gordevilla against Benjamin.
In her complaint, Gordevilla alleged that she was hurt by the barangay captain when he tried to pacify a commotion between her and her live-in partner on Jan. 26, 2014 in their residence in Purok Bayanihan, Barangay Banago.
Benjamin denied the allegations, saying he was not even able to enter the residence of the couple.
In its recommendation signed by committee chairperson Councilor Caesar Distrito, vice chairperson Councilor Ana Marie Palermo, and Councilor Renecito Novero as member, the committee dismissed the administrative case for lack of interest on the part of the complainant to prosecute the case against Benjamin.
The recommendation stated that a notice of administrative hearing was served to both parties on May 25, 2017 but the complainant refused to sign the notice and manifested that she was no longer interested to pursue the case.
On May 4, 2015, the SP referred the administrative case to the committee on laws then chaired by Palermo who required the submission of affidavits from the parties.
Later, the case was endorsed to Distrito as the present chairperson of the committee. The councilor called for another hearing but the complainant did not appear./PN
