KALIBO, Aklan – Police and military officials in Aklan cautioned the public to be vigilant and on guard amid the “planned” attacks of terrorist groups on June 30.
The report, allegedly from National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), mentioned that IS-backed Maute is planning to hijack petroleum trucks and fuel tankers to be used as “vehicle bombs.”
“Maute special units who graduated last November from explosives training have been in place at their respective targets to simultaneously execute the attacks during the Friday prayer Jumaah,” a report also read.
The post went viral on Facebook and other social media platforms on Monday which warned the public of a joint attack of Maute group, ISIS and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in churches, malls and populated areas in major cities nationwide.
Acting Aklan police director Senior Superintendent Lope Manlapaz said, “the police and military are in full alert after the Marawi incident to secure vital installations in the province of Aklan.”
“Don’t take threat lightly. Let us treat this positively. Mapagmatyag, mapanuri at maging alerto tayo sa ganitong sitwasyon,” he stressed.
Manlapaz said the Philippine Army and the aviation security groups in Aklan airports are also coordinating with the local police to ensure safety and security.
So far, no terror group or any armed groups were monitored based on intelligence monitoring of Aklan Police Provincial Office.
Moreover, Manlapaz dismissed reports that “the displaced residents from Marawi were suspected members of a terrorist group.”
“Ang mga datos ng mga evacuees galing sa Mindanao na kinukuha natin dahil kailangan din ng ibang ahensiya ng gobyerno. May sa Ibajay, karamihan sa kanila ay napunta sa Boracay Island sa kanilang mga relatives. Wala naman silang kinalaman sa mga grupo na involved sa Mindanao,” he stressed.
Lt. Col. Leomar Jose Doctolero, commander of 12th Infantry Battalion, for his part, said security matters are shared responsibilities of the military and community.
A joint peace and security coordinating conference was conducted by the Aklan police and 12th Infantry Battalion officials on Tuesday 20 to discuss the current security situation and preparations. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
