MANILA – Star Hotshots and GlobalPort Batang Pier were letting go of their respective reinforcements in the PBA Governors’ Cup for new ones.
Hotshots head coach Chito Victolero said they have tapped Malcolm Hill to replace Cinmeon Bowers, who failed to impress during his team’s 103-86 victory over Blackwater Elite last Sunday.
Bowers – who Victolero previously envisioned to take the cudgels in lieu of injured big man Marc Pingris – produced 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and a block in almost 30 minutes of action.
“Actually we already planned to replace him even before the start of the conference because of his not-so-good showing during our tune-up games,” said Victolero. “His performance last Sunday was the last straw.”
The 21-year-old Hill, an undrafted player in the recent NBA Rookie Draft, arrived in the Philippines on Monday afternoon and will make his debut against Alaska Aces on Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
GlobalPort also decided to let go of Jabril Trawick heading into its second conference match against league leader Phoenix Fuel Masters tonight.
Replacing Trawick, who had 3 points in 16 minutes of action in Batang Pier’s 98-96 loss to Rain or Shine Elasto Painters last Friday, is Murphy Holloway – actually the team’s original prospect.
“Murphy (Holloway) was our original choice as import but he was not available when they first reached him so we were forced to tap Trawick as temporary reinforcement,” said GlobalPort head coach Franz Pumaren./PN
