DUMAGUETE City – Classes resumed yesterday at the Silliman University (SU) after the three-day strike was lifted by the Faculty Association (FA).
The SU administration and the SUFA had a meeting with Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC) in Negros Oriental over the weekend, said Mark Raygan Garcia, SU’s Office of the Information and Publication director.
TIPC, in a statement, said it volunteered to mediate the dispute which already reached the secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment.
“Silliman offered a [new] package which is based on actual enrolments and revenues this year instead of the projected one before,” TIPC said.
The new package will allot an annual budget over P230 million for salaries and benefits of regular academic personnel which will start this year up to the next two years.
TIPC congratulated both parties for the “victory of industrial peace.”
The SUFA went on strike because of a deadlock in negotiations with the university administration on the former’s proposed collective bargaining agreement.
SUFA was asking for some P83 million in wages and other benefits while the SU administration only offered P63 million. (PNA)
