ILOILO City – At the Iloilo City Police Office (IPPO) yesterday morning, 122 police officers were subjected to an unscheduled drug testing.
They were summoned to a conference with Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, city police director, around 8 a.m. but were not informed there would be drug testing, said the ICPO spokesperson, Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines.
The police officers submitted urine samples.
“We want to show to the public that law enforcers in Iloilo City are drug-free. After all, we are the frontlines in the campaign against illegal drugs,” she told Panay News.
The drug-tested police officers came from ICPO’s six police stations (City Proper, La Paz, Jaro, Mandurriao, Molo, and Arevalo), Public Safety Company and the Traffic Management and Engineering Unit.
“This is part of the police organization’s internal cleansing,” said Sangrines.
There would be random drug tests, too.
Results of yesterday drug test would be released next week.
Police officers failing the drug test or found trafficking illegal drugs face sanctions.
“We will recommend them for rehabilitation. We will also study the filing of administrative complaints,” said Sangrines./PN
