ILOILO City – Unlicensed firearms and ammunitions were seized from the house of a gun-running and gun-for-hire suspect in Barangay Carmelo, Banate, Iloilo.
From his house around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, the 54-year-old Eugene Dela Cruz was taken to the detention cell of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6.
CIDG operatives, backed by Banate policemen, raided Dela Cruz’s house. Judge Mauricio Gomez of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 66 issued the search warrant.
Recovered from Dela Cruz’s house were the following:
* KG9 machine pistol
* .45 pistol
* air gun with scope and silencer
* 140 pieces of ammunition for an M16 rifle
* 15 pieces of ammunition for a .45 pistol
* 17 pieces of ammunition for a .9mm pistol
* gambling paraphernalia
All the recovered firearms did not have licenses, said Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, police provincial director.
Citing in intelligence information, Tayaba linked Dela Cruz to the “Emong criminal gang” and illegal gambling in northern Iloilo as suspected financier.
According to Banate police chief Inspector Fernando Punzalan, Dela Cruz was arrested for illegal gambling in April this year but was able to post bail after he was charged.
“We are still verifying all the information we received but I’m sure he is engaged in gun-running,” said Tayaba.
