ILOILO City – A farmer in Barangay Malusgod, Pototan, Iloilo faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
According to Senior Inspector Bonifacio Alabe, Pototan police chief, they received information that 57-year-old Adriano Calise manufactured guns illegally and also accepted gun repair jobs.
Operatives of the Pototan police station and Iloilo Police Provincial Office raided Calise’s house yesterday around 9:30 a.m. Judge Vicente Go of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 68 issued the search warrant.
The following items were confiscated from the suspect’s house:
* homemade 12-gauge shotgun and ammunitions
* hand drill
* electric sander
* iron clamp
* a pair of iron scissors
* hacksaw blade
* shock pipe use for making gun barrel
* flat bar frame
* improvised coil spring
* spray paint
“I manufactured firearms but that was some 10 years ago,” Calise told Panay News.
According to Calise, he was able to send his children to school from the money he made repairing guns or manufacturing them.
“But I stopped doing that already. I am focused on farming now,” he insisted.
He also said the shotgun was his but this was for his personal protection. He denied using the gun for criminal activities.
Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, provincial police director, said illegal gunsmiths were among the targets of his men “kasi dyan bumibili ang mga guns-for-hire ng armas.”/PN
