BACOLOD City – The Solid Waste Action Team (SWAT) is conducting an information education campaign (IEC) on the “no segregation, no collection” policy under the city’s solid waste management program.
The policy was prescheduled to start in September but Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, SWAT head, said if the IECs finish early this month, he may implement the policy before the target date.
The IEC started on July 28 in Barangay 30 and have reached the remaining barangays in the city.
SWAT is being assisted by the Solid Waste Enforcers Educators Team, or SWEET.
The IEC targets homeowners, market vendors, jeepney drivers and operators, sanitary inspectors, street cleaners, establishments, schools, among others.
“No segregation, no collection” violators will face penalties under Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
From Aug. 5 to 7, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will also conduct a waste analysis characterization study in the city./PN
