BACOLOD City – Top police officials in Negros Occidental stressed they were compliant with the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald dela Rosa’s order to stop illegal gambling.
Yesterday at Camp Crame in Quezon City, dela Rosa gave police forces a 15-day ultimatum.
“We have to comply,” said Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
Chief Superintendent Edmund Gonzales, Police Regional Office 18 director, gave the same order during a command conference on July 24, Wanky said.
But even before these, the BCPO has already been intensively operating against illegal gambling, Wanky stressed. “We conduct a lot of operations.”
Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office personnel were also doing their best to follow dela Rosa’s order, their director said.
“[We] continue to conduct operations to stop illegal gambling in the province,” Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil said.
Curiously, Castil said anti-illegal gambling operations will go on “even after the 15 days lapse.”
Dela Rosa said the Philippine National Police was always being called out for its failure to curb illegal gambling.
“So, henceforth, I am directing all regional directors [to] go all-out against illegal gambling. I am giving them 15 days,” he said.
Police directors and their subordinates who will fail will be relieved, he stressed./PN
