ILOILO City – The city government is inviting the public to join the float competition in celebration of the 80th Charter Day of the city, with the highlight parade on Aug. 25.
The contest is open to all business corporations and companies, national government agencies, local government units including barangays, tertiary schools, civic clubs and associations, and civil society organizations.
Clusters of similar agencies or offices and partnerships with private companies are also encouraged to participate.
“Some companies would like to make floats to show how supportive they are of the programs of the city government,” said City Tourism officer Junel Ann Divinagracia.
The float competition is expected to add more color to the Charter Day celebration.
Interested participants should fill up registration forms for free at the City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) not later than Aug. 10.
Under the guidelines, the float must not be less than five meters long. No height and width limit is specified, provided the float can maneuver the city streets easily and avoid the electric lines.
The design of the float must conform to the theme “Celebrating 80 years of Ilonggo Culture and Pride.”
The design should incorporate or depict identifiable Ilonggo culture and icons such as heritage buildings or structures; industry such as hablon weaving; food like batchoy; festivals; attractions like Esplanade; a tableau of representations of Ilonggo personalities such as former mayors and successful individuals; and depiction of a period in city’s history from American era up to the present.
Iloilo City’s logo and the 80th Charter Day symbol, together with the company or office logo, must be prominently displayed.
The city logo must not be less than 18 inches in height.
Float sponsors’ logos may also be displayed provided they do not cover the general theme.
One extra vehicle is allowed to follow the float.
Music of the 1980s must be incorporated in the float. The company jingles may be blended, too.
The participants will be the one to provide their own sound system.
A minimum of five dancing participants must be on board the float with appropriate costumes. Indecent attire is not allowed.
The parade route of float is at Freedom Grandstand going to J.M. Basa Street, Iznart Street, Capitol, Valeria Street, Ledesma Street, Plazoleta Gay, and J.M. Basa Street.
The judging areas are at Freedom Grandstand, Capitol, and Plazoleta Gay.
The float will be judge based on craftsmanship which comprises 40 percent; relevance to the theme for 30 percent; music for 15 percent, and performance 15 percent for a total of 100 percent./PN
