BACOLOD City – Councilor Wilson Gamboa will hold the first public hearing on his proposed animal welfare ordinance on Aug. 4 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) session hall in the Bacolod City Government Center.
The proposal, coauthored by Councilor Bartolome Orola, aims to spread animal welfare awareness in the city through programs, information campaigns, workshops, seminars, and dialogues.
Gamboa said this will promote the rights of animals in the city.
The measure seeks the establishment, promotion and operation of facilities that will be used in breeding, maintaining, keeping, treating, and training animals, either as objects of trade or as household pets.
The proposal will also task the City Veterinary Office to organize the “Animal Welfare Awareness Week” with the help of the Office of the Mayor.
Nongovernment organizations and animal rights groups must also be tapped to help enforce the measure, said Gamboa.
An estimated P300,000 will be allocated for the implementation of the ordinance, he added.
