ILOILO City – Crimes in this city from July 17 to 23 this year were lower compared to those that the police recorded in the same period in 2016.
“We are glad. This only means Iloilo City is continuously peaceful and livable,” said Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) recorded 40 index crimes from July 18 to 24, 2016 while 26 cases only from July 17 to 23, 2017.
Index crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, carnapping and cattle rustling.
For the non-index crime, there were only 36 crimes from July 17 to 23, 2017 – lower compared to 55 non-index crimes from July 18 to 24 of last year.
Non-index crimes include violations of special laws and others.
Overall, the crime volume in Western Visayas dropped by 8.50 percent, data from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) showed.
From July 1, 2016 to June 31, 2017 the PRO-6 recorded 36,690 crimes – 3,410 lower than the crimes recorded from July 1, 2015 to June 31, 2016 (40,100).
Meanwhile, ICPO recorded 117 traffic incidents in the metropolis from July 17 to 23 of this year, lower than the 133 traffic incidents from July 18 to 24 of last year.
“One of the factors for the drop in crime incidents was the weekly assessment and conference of our police director, Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, with our station commanders including our traffic policemen. Our city director is doing an evaluation,” said ICPO spokesperson, Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines.
Sangrines also said the police visibility was another factor why crime incidents decreased.
On the other hand, the regional police’s crime clearance and solution efficiency increased by 2.96 percent and 3.07 percent, respectively.
The region’s crime clearance (62.03 percent) and solution efficiency (60.62 percent) were also higher than the national targets of 48.42 percent and 36.41 percent, respectively.
