ILOILO City – Today’s scheduled citywide cleanup has been postponed until further notice “due (a) to forecasted bad weather condition.”
Yesterday, City Administrator Hernando Galvez issued a memorandum circular informing all government employees, agencies, barangay officials, and private companies about the postponement.
The massive cleanup is in line with the celebration of the Iloilo City Charter Day.
“Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and the entire Iloilo City Government are thankful and grateful to all who expressed intention to join tomorrow’s (Aug. 5, 2017) citywide cleanup. However, due to forecasted bad weather condition, the activity scheduled on the said date is hereby postponed until further notice,” the memorandum read.
Last week, the city government’s declogging team started cleaning all drainages and outfalls.
“This will also free the drainage system from solid waste, thus ensuring the smooth flow of water,” said Mabilog.
The declogging team started cleaning the drainage on Iznart Street; Barangay Ma. Clara, City Proper; and areas surrounding Iloilo Central Market on July 26 and the drainages within the area of Iloilo Terminal Market on July 27.
Many would have wanted to join today’s cleanup. They included city hall employees, barangay officials, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection – Iloilo City, Department of Education (including some universities and colleges in the metropolis), homeowners’ associations, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources, among others.
“Through this cleanup activity, we aim to give emphasis on the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of our surroundings, and that this program of Mayor Mabilog is in line with the advocacy of President Rodrigo Duterte on environmental protection,” said Galvez./PN
