KALIBO, Aklan – The Department of Tourism in Boracay believes it will exceed its 2-million target tourist arrival this year.
From January to July, tourist arrivals reached 1,260,958, a 12-percent increase from 1,126,755 for the same period last year.
Tourists from Korea, China and Taiwan have been steadily rising for the past seven months, Boracay tourism officer-in-charge Kristoffer Leo Velete said.
The three countries accounted for 69 percent of 640,460 foreign visitors in the island, Velete added.
Chinese tourists were at the top with 207,702 arrivals from January to July, followed by Koreans with 203,998. Taiwanese tourists were in third spot with 28,198 arrivals.
Domestic tourist arrivals also rose to 589,450 from 538,928 last year, up by 9 percent over the same period.
Velete said the increase is due to the “friendly relations” with China. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
