ILOILO City – The newly created Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) of the city government has no people to man it yet.
“We are still accepting applicants,” said City Administrator Hernando Galvez.
Even those outside of the city are welcome to apply, he said.
“The city mayor instructed us to ensure that the hiring must be based on merit and fitness for the job,” said Galvez.
The PSTMO is a consolidation of four city government bodies – Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO), Police Auxiliaries, Special Services Unit (SSU), and Task Force on Anti Squatting and Illegal Structures (TF Asis).
It needs, among others, a department head, assistant department head, administrative officer, and two administrative aides.
The PSTMO has three divisions (Administrative, Special Services and Transportation Management) as well as two units (Public Safety, and Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structure).
Traffic enforcers and auxiliaries will be under the Transportation Management Division which will supervise and manage transportation-related concerns and assist in policy concerns.
The Special Services Division will be in-charge of sidewalk and ambulant vendors, and jaywalking and related concerns.
The Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structure Unit will have the following responsibilities:
* investigate and prevent the proliferation of professional squatters and squatting syndicates
* investigate and prevent the establishment and construction of illegal structures, stalls and kiosks in all city streets, plazas, sidewalks and every or all other public places
* remove and demolish all illegal structures, stalls and kiosks in all city streets, plazas, sidewalks and every or all other public places
* file the necessary complaint or information against said professional squatters and squatting syndicates under the direction of Task Force Asis; and
* submit a monthly accomplishment report relative to the unit’s official action or as often as required./PN
