ILOILO – Two students from Iloilo city and province won gold medals at the China Primary Mathematics Olympiad in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.
The 12-year-old Andrea Hope Espinosa Uy was from Assumption-Iloilo while Recsan Triumfante was from the Kinaadman Elementary School in Tigbuan, Iloilo.
The math Olympiad was held from July 16 to 31. Uy and Triumphante’s team won gold in relay for the first time.
In individual competitions, Uy bagged a silver medal in calculation and bronze in problem-solving while Triumfante got the bronze in both.
“I am very happy that our team won and one of my team mates is also an Ilonggo. This is our first time. Before this competition, I studied harder than I could and I am always asking God’s grace,” said Uy.
Triumfante, on the other hand, thanked both her parents and friends.
“I feel proud and happy. I’m thankful to my parents for the support they gave me during the completion. Without them, my experience would be different,” he said.
Uy and Triumfante presented the medals and certificates they got from the competition to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. during a recent courtesy visit. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno, Iloilo Capitol/PN)
