BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Anti-Smoking Task Force (BASTF) continued to monitor smoking around the city while waiting for citation tickets to be ready.
The BASTF inspected designated smoking areas (DSAs) in commercial establishments and made sure that no DSAs were put up in hospitals, schools, laboratories, clinics, public plazas, and recreational areas for children, among other areas, where smoking is absolutely banned.
The City Treasurer’s Office was tasked to have the citation tickets printed.
“When the tickets are ready, apprehensions will start,” said Councilor Caesar Distrito, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on laws, ordinances and good governance.
Distrito hopes the tickets become available next month.
Meanwhile, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) already apprehended smoking ban violators in public utility vehicles.
Distrito earlier clarified that areas not covered by the BTAO will be under the jurisdiction of the Bacolod City Police Office, the City Legal Office and the BASTF.
Under the Comprehensive Bacolod City Anti-Smoking Ordinance, violators will be fined P500 for the first offense, P1,000 for the second offense and P2,500 for the third offense and/or a 30-day imprisonment at the court’s discretion./PN
