ILOILO City – Charged with cattle rustling, a 20-year-old man was arrested in Barangay Barangay Milan, Lemery, Iloilo.
Resident Romer Cuarte was detained at the municipal police station.
Cuarte was charged last year. Officers served him with a warrant of arrest around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, a police report showed.
Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court Branch 66 issued the warrant and set the bail at P36,000.
Presidential Decree 553, or the Anti-Cattle Rustling Law of 1974, defines the crime as the act of “taking away by any means, method or scheme, without the consent of the owner/raiser, of any of the abovementioned animals, whether or not for profit or gain, or whether committed with or without violence against or intimidation of any person or force upon things.”
“The killing of large cattle or taking its meat, or [hiding it] without the consent of the owner/raiser” is also considered cattle rustling, the law stated.
Under the law, large cattle include “cow, carabao, horse, mule, ass, or other domesticated member of the bovine family.”/PN
