ILOILO City – A tenant and the owner of a boardinghouse in Barangay Boulevard, Molo district complained to the police that another tenant swindled them.
Joe Sibugan was accused of duping fellow boarder Rosie Junio Simson into giving him P5,600, leaving the boardinghouse without paying his P3,700 bills and stealing valuables, a police report showed.
Simson told the police that on Aug. 19, Sibugan told her that their landlord, Genaro Nagrit, was asking from her P5,600 to be used for the renovation of their boardinghouse. Simson obliged.
A few days later, Sibugan asked her for more money, this time for the purchase of an air-conditioning unit. He told her Nagrit again asked for it, Simson told the police.
Simson became suspicious. She and Nagrit told Sibugan that they will accompany him in buying the appliance.
When Sibugan failed to meet them, they concluded that he was deceiving them. They went to check Sibugan’s room, only to find him and his valuables already gone, police said.
Later, Nagrit discovered that the locks of their rooms have been unscrewed and some of their valuables were missing. He suspected that Sibugan took them, the police report stated.
Police were still searching for Sibugan as of this writing./PN
