ILOILO City – Police raided the house of the barangay captain of Zerrudo, Sara, Iloilo yesterday and seized a .9mm pistol.

Manuel Agutaya, 55, was brought to the Sara police station but was released after he produced a gun license.

Operatives of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s (IPPO) Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit raided Agutaya’s house around 4:30 a.m. yesterday.

They also recovered three magazines, said Chief Inspector Charlie Sustento Jr., supervisor of the IPPO’s Provincial Special Operation Group (PSOG).

The search warrant was granted by Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 66, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.

According to Sustento, PSOG received information that a newly-formed criminal gang had barangay officials as members.

Led by a dismissed police officer, this gang was allegedly into gun-running, illegal drugs and gun-for-hire activities, added Sustento.

The police official, however, admitted that the information PSOG received needed validation./PN
