ILOILO City – Today, the Western Visayas Transport Coalition is filing a petition for fare increase at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 6.
Coalition members, however, clarified they were open to a fare hike much lower than their proposed P3.50 increase.
The coalition is composed of four transport associations – Iloilo City Loop Alliance of Jeepney Owners and Drivers Association (ICLAJODA), Iloilo City Alliance of Drivers Association (ICADA), Iloilo City Alliance of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (ICAJODA), and Confederation of Iloilo Jeepney Owners and Drivers Association (CIPJODA).
“We are open kon panubo-nubo-an gid man,” said ICLAJODA president Raymundo Parcon.
The current minimum fare of P6.50 could jump to P10 if the proposed P3.50 fare increase is approved.
Parcon said jeepney drivers were aware that such increase may not sit well with some commuters.
“Ginapamatian man naton ang mga commuters. Open kami nga magnubo-nubo sa P3.50,” he stressed.
The Western Visayas Transport Coalition cited the series of increases in the prices of diesel fuel as well as prime commodities and auto supplies for seeking a fare hike.
In May this year, jeepney drivers sought a P1 fare hike but LTFRB has yet to act on it, said Parcon.
Tuesday last week in Metro Manila, five transport groups filed before the LTFRB a petition seeking to increase the minimum jeepney fare to P10 from the current P8./PN
