ILOILO City – This October and December, a three-day activity will teach the youth on how to be equipped and prepared for calamities.
The Iloilo City Youth Development Division (CYDD), in partnership with Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 6 and Liga ng mga Barangay, will hold a Disaster Resiliency Camp.
The two batches of camps will have 300 participants each. Registration schedules will soon be announced in the barangays.
“After the camp, we expect the youth to become KABALAKA volunteers, for we consider them as the most vulnerable and empowered sector of society,” said CYDD head Jason Gregorio.
KABALAKA stands for KAhublagan sa BArangay para sa LApnagon nga KAhandaan sa Kalamidad, an advocacy for disaster preparedness.
There will be resource speakers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Iloilo City Emergency Response Team (ICER), and Red Cross to discuss some tips and conduct disaster preparedness training.
The highlight will be the Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) training which will serve as short practice about water rescue techniques, added Gregorio. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
