MANILA – Far Eastern University Tamaraws leaned on Arvin Tolentino’s career game to score 90-83 against National University Bulldogs in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball yesterday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Tolentino, a transferee from Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, finished with career-high 23 points – 13 coming in the opening half – for Tamaraws, which improved to a 3-2 win-loss record.
Alejandrino Iñigo added 12 markers while Barkley Ebona, Wendell Comboy and Jasper Parker combined for 28 points.
With a slim 12-10 lead early in the game, FEU pulled away on triples from Parker to get ahead 20-13. But Bulldogs rallied to come to within 31-34.
NU managed to tie the score 39-all but Comboy answered with back-to-back triples and Tolentino got inside conversions to maintain a 48-41 halftime lead.
Bulldogs made another run early in the third frame to cut the deficit 46-52 but three straight points by Iñigo followed by back-to-back treys by Tolentino stretched Tamaraws’ lead 70-55.
Tamaraws maintained its double-digit lead in the fourth 84-72 when Bulldogs made its last push to come to as close as 79-84. Inside hits by Ebona and Tolentino sealed the win for FEU.
Bulldogs suffered its second straight loss and slid to 2-3. Rodolfo Alejandro led its scoring with 23 points while Matthew Aquino added 13./PN
