MANILA – The Philippines wrapped up its campaign in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) on 18th place with two gold medals.
It also bagged 13 silver and 13 bronze medals in the sporting event in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan that formally closed last night.
The host country was overall champion. China placed second and Iran third.
Jiu-jitsu bets Margarita Ochoa and Annie Ramirez were the only bright spots for the Filipinos are delivering golds in women’s ne-wasa -45kg and -55kg divisions, respectively.
Rubilen Amit and 29th Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Chezca Centeno lost to their Chinese opponents in women’s 10-ball and 9-ball, respectively.
Amit failed to sustain her strong start in the finals match against Chinese Siming Chen for a close 5-7 loss. Centeno struggled against Chinese Han Yu for a 4-7 defeat.
Team Philippines also struggled in poomsae, taking silver medals from Jocel Lyn Ninobla and Rodolfo Reyes in women’s and men’s individual events, respectively.
German Enriquez and Ma. Daniela Publico (dancesport) and Jan Emmanuel Garcia and Paulo Bersamina (men’s chess team) also settled for silver.
Kristel Macrohon of weightlifting; Gerald Jamili and Cherry Clarice Parcon of dancesport; Ninobla, Rinna Babanto, and Juvenile Faye Crisostomo of women’s team poomsae; and Reyes, Dustin and Raphael Mella in men’s team poomsae won bronzes.
The winners were set to receive cash incentives from the Philippine Sports Commission: P2 million for gold medalists, P1 million for silver medalists and P400,000 for bronze medalists./PN
