MANILA – Allan Vallespin defended the Philippine Games and Amusements Board (PGAB) super featherweight belt with a unanimous-decision win over Christian Abila at the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.
It was the first successful title defense of the Bacolod City native who captured the title via unanimous decision over Warren Manbuanag last year.
Aside from Vallespin, fellow Negrense boxers Ronnie Campos, Ricardo Sueno and Roldan Aldea also snared victories on Sunday in the supporting bouts of the fight card presented by the Elorde International Promotions.
Campos, another Bacolod native, tallied his second straight win via first-round knockout over Roy Lagrada.
Sagay City native Sueno decisioned Manny Mamacquiao while Kabankalan City native Aldea stopped Manbuanag in the fourth round.
Vallespin had a strong start as he unloaded multiple volume punches, including a huge left straight that rocked the defense of Abila midway in the 12-round bout.
Abila was able to retaliate with his own shots in the middle rounds but Vallespin was unstoppable with his combinations that led to the one-sided victory on the three judges’ scorecards.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga sumuporta sa akin, lalo na iyong mga kababayan ko sa Negros,” Vallespin told Panay News after the match. “Sila ang inspirasyon ko sa panalong ito.”
The victory allowed Vallespin to improve his boxing record to 11-1-0, with eight wins coming by way of knockouts, while the 28-year-old Abila’s slate slid to 16-22-5, including five stoppage wins./PN
